The Neighborhood Farmer’s Market model is a designated space adjacent to a regularly operating village night market sponsored by the village’s mayor. The Mangilao Mayor’s Office is one participating center. The soft opening of the Farm to Table Market was held at the 2014 Donne Festival where a total of eight vendors participated, including Coco’s Oil, One Village One Product, Guahan Family Farms, Ginen Guåhan, Christian’s Mango Farm, PUNGCo Farms, Tagachang Farm, and of course, Farm to Table Guam. Barefoot Juicer (Jenny Coffman) conducted a demonstration on how to make yogurt with local coconuts and Ginen Guåhan showed the crowd how to weave different items using coconut and palm leaves.
The Grand Opening took place soon after at the Mangilao Night Market Site and continues to be the location until Spring 2015. Our goal is to expand to different villages and have them weekly. Currently, the market is held the first Thursday of each month and only local produce, plants, and products made with local ingredients are sold.
